Carmen Calhoun Has "i am" Experience

How and when did you start singing?

I have always sung, ever since I can remember.  I remember singing in elementary glee club to high school graduation, then in my adulthood in church.  It wasn't until I was 30-something that I began to write.

Daddy (Holy Spirit) was just downloading songs, and I had no clue what to do with them because I thought I was too old and for sure no one else wanted to hear them.  That was fear because I was not a good student in English. In fact, I barely made it out of high school because of it.

But when Daddy gives you something, it’s always perfect.

This is your third project. Tell me how this one differs from the others. What is your message here?

This "i am" CD is my third project and it is different because the songs all focus on the I AM (Jesus/the Holy Spirit) flowing through us and then you and me agreeing with who He says "i am".  The focus is more on Him loving us than us loving Him, and it is about us receiving the Love of God.

My heart is for the listener to go beyond a head knowledge of God Loving them but also RECEIVING the Love of God for their life.

Romans 5:17 states ... “much more those who receive the abundance of Grace and the gift of righteousness shall REIGN in life through Christ.”  I want the listener to be filled to overflow with the love, grace, peace and joy of the Holy Spirit.

Tell me about “I Am.” I know what it means from a Biblical perspective, but what does it mean for you?

It speaks of G.U.I. Dance meaning: God, you and I Dance -- an intimate leading from our Abba Father (Daddy) who wants to lead and share in our lives, whether its help choosing the color eyeshadow that you’re not sure of, or the tie you want to wear.  If it matter s to you it matters to Him. The message of the "i am" CD is about moving on the unforced rhythms of grace and practicing the presence of God.

How do you think that this project, and what you have learned can help others?

The CD "i am" serenades you with the Love of God through song. The "i am" CD is life changing because it presents choice, life or death, and just in case you don't know what choice to make, it leads you to choose life, happiness and peace instead of death, frustration and confusion, as the listener feels the wind of change blowing within them to respond to a LOVING FATHER!!

Derrick Pearson Gets Personal with God

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Derrick Pearson and New Covenant released their new single, “If This Were Really Love,” a message about love and commitment.

The single is just a slice of the new two-disc project “You and Me Time” that encourages relationship with God, and springs from Pearson’s own experience.

In this interview, Pearson explains just what it’s all about.

TVN: You started your group in 2005, but you're not new to the music scene. Tell me a little about your background

DP: I started some years ago playing bass guitar and keyboards for local R&B & Go-Go groups in and around D.C. Soon I started writing and composing songs. My first song to get heard was a tune I composed for a local TV show called “The Dance Connection”. I then went on to write the go-go hit “Movin and Groovin” with my group Redds & the boys, which has been one of the few go-go songs to chart on Billboard. I then went on to compose and produce for national artist like the OJays, The Whispers, the Dells and others. Many of those songs have been used in TV and film for shows like Miami Vice, The Equalizer, Inside NBA Stuff and others. In 1988 I turned my life and all that is in my life over to the Lord Jesus Christ and since then I only do music that will glorify God and is in line with the word of God; however the experience of those early days helps with what God has led me to do today.
