In a national Democratic radio address on Dec. 6, President-elect Obama announced 5 key areas for his economic recovery plan. Obama's proposed plan promises restore the nations infrastructure by saving or creating at least two and a half million jobs, improving school buildings, reducing dependence on oil, and saving billions of dollars. President George W. Bush was honored last month with humanitarian awards for the funding his administration has provided to African nations to fight HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis.

The United States reached its goal to provide treatment to 2 million HIV-infected people globally ahead of schedule, the president said Dec. 1 on World AIDS Day, after he was awarded the first International Medal of PEACE, given by the Saddleback Civil Forum on Global Health.

Bush also was awarded the 2008 Africare Bishop John T. Walker Distinguished Humanitarian Service Award at a dinner of international, government and business leaders in DC.
